Frequently asked questions about Magic: The Gathering

Everything you need to know before buying or selling magic: the gathering on Blisterr.

  • What is the Reserved List?
The Reserved List is a list of cards that Wizards of the Coast has committed not to reprint, a policy in force since 1996. The resulting scarcity explains the high price of some old cards. For any old card, check the printed edition and the real condition.
  • Commander, Modern, Legacy: does the format affect the price of a card?
Yes: player demand depends on the format in which the card is played, while collectors mostly care about age, rarity and condition. The price also depends on the edition, the language and whether there is a foil finish.
  • Foil or non-foil: what is the difference?
A foil card has a shiny surface. Depending on the card and the edition, the foil version can be worth more or less than the standard version. A foil can curl over time, which can reduce its value: ask for a video of the card lying flat.
  • What are the fees for buying Magic cards on Blisterr?
You pay the item price, the buyer protection fee (6.9% of the item price, shipping excluded, + €0.49 once per order with the same seller) and delivery. The seller pays no commission. Details are in the FAQ.
  • Singles or sealed products: which should I favour?
Singles suit players and collectors looking for a specific card. Sealed products (boosters, displays, collector boxes) are for those who want to open them or keep them closed. Check the condition of the wrapping and ask for photos or a video before buying.

About Magic: The Gathering on Blisterr

Magic: The Gathering is the oldest modern collectible card game. Designed by Richard Garfield and published by Wizards of the Coast since 1993, it laid the foundations of an entire genre. More than thirty years of expansions have produced a vast universe, where players and collectors do not always look for the same cards.

For players, the value of a card often depends on the format in which it is played: Commander, Modern, Pioneer, Standard, Legacy or Vintage. A card heavily used in a format is sought after by players of that format, while an old or rare card is sought after by collectors. Value also depends on the edition, the language, the condition and the presence of a foil finish. A foil can curl over time, which can reduce its value: a flat video lets you check it.

The Reserved List is a list of cards that Wizards of the Coast has committed not to reprint, a policy in place since 1996. The resulting scarcity explains the high price of some older cards. For any older card, check the printed edition and the real condition: differences between two copies of the same card can be significant.

On condition, single cards are usually described with a scale such as Near Mint, Lightly Played or Played. These assessments remain subjective: ask for sharp photos or a video of both sides, the corners and the edges. Sealed products (boosters, displays, collector boxes) should be checked too: an intact wrapping and no sign of opening are good indicators. Highly sought-after cards are counterfeited, so caution is advised for valuable pieces.

On Blisterr, you can buy with instant buy, a classic or silent auction, a Drop, or join a giveaway, in a video Peek or during a live. Every seller application is reviewed manually by our team, and the 30-day buyer protection covers an item that never arrives, does not match its description or is a proven counterfeit. Card payments are processed by Stripe.
