How TCG live auctions work: complete guide

By Blisterr Team

A TCG live auction is a trading card auction streamed in real time: a seller presents items one by one, you bid from the app, and the highest bidder wins the lot when the countdown ends. This guide explains, rule by rule, how it works on Blisterr: sale formats, countdown, anti-snipe, payment, fees and buyer protection. The rules below are Blisterr’s rules as of October 5, 2026.

What is a TCG live auction?

A seller broadcasts from their shop or living room, shows their cards, sealed products or figures, and puts each lot up for auction in front of viewers. You see the card from every angle, you hear the seller describe it, you ask questions in the chat, and you bid at the same time as other collectors.

It’s the digital version of the auction room: a shared countdown, live overbids, and a lot awarded at the end. For a quick overview of the format, see The Live.

Which sale formats are used during a live?

The seller chooses the format of each lot. Here are the formats that make a live worth watching; instant buy, at a fixed price, exists too, and all five Blisterr formats are detailed on the sale formats page.

Classic auction

Bids are visible to everyone in real time. You see the price climb and you know exactly how much you need to bid to outbid. The minimum increment is €1 up to €99, then €3 from €100; the maximum bid is €100,000. It’s the most dynamic format, suited to iconic pieces (vintage, graded, rare sealed products). More on the classic auction page.

Silent auction

Bids are hidden until the end: you can’t see what other buyers offer, and the best offer wins when the auction closes. This format avoids public bidding wars and keeps your budget private. More on the silent auction page.

Drop

A Drop is a Dutch auction: the seller sets a starting price, a floor price and a duration; the price drops automatically, and the first buyer to click Buy wins the item at the displayed price. In a live, a Drop lasts 10 to 60 seconds: waiting for the price to fall means risking that another buyer clicks before you. More on the Drop page.

Giveaway

A giveaway is a free prize draw among eligible participants. The seller chooses who can take part: everyone, the shop’s followers, or its past buyers. The winner pays nothing for the item, the buyer protection fee or delivery (delivery is paid by the seller). More on the giveaway page.

How a live works, step by step

  1. The seller schedules or starts the live. If you follow their shop, the app notifies you when the live starts.
  2. You join the live from the Live tab of the app. The chat is open: ask about condition, provenance or grading.
  3. The seller presents a lot: they describe the card, its condition and its origin.
  4. The auction starts. A lot’s countdown lasts 30 seconds by default. You bid from the app.
  5. When the countdown ends, the highest bidder wins the lot and payment is triggered automatically (see below).
  6. The seller moves on to the next lot. A live lasts 2 hours at most: it stops automatically after that.

The anti-snipe: how the countdown extension works

“Sniping” means placing your bid in the very last second so nobody can respond. To prevent it, Blisterr applies a simple rule during lives only:

  • if a bid is placed with less than 15 seconds left, the countdown resets to 15 seconds;
  • the total duration of a lot is capped at 1 hour;
  • the seller can turn this extension off.

Peek auctions, on the other hand, end at the displayed time: there is no extension. To understand the difference between the two formats, read The Peek explained.

Bid commitment: a crucial point

On Blisterr, any bid placed is a firm, final and irrevocable commitment to pay once it is won (article 4.4 of the Terms of Sale). The bidder:

  • cannot withdraw their bid;
  • cannot reverse their participation;
  • cannot dispute the award, except for a clear technical error by the platform.

Many new buyers underestimate this: bidding on an €800 card on impulse means committing to pay €800 (plus the buyer protection fee and delivery).

Paying for a lot you won in a live

What to set up before bidding

To bid in a live, your account needs a complete profile (first name, last name, date of birth), at least one address, at least one card payment method and a default pickup point: in a live, delivery goes to a pickup point, and the server picks the cheapest delivery option.

Payment is automatic

When a lot’s sale ends, payment is automatically charged to your wallet and/or your default card. Blisterr doesn’t store any card data: card payments are collected through Stripe.

If the payment fails

If it fails (3D Secure not completed, card declined), a payment debt is opened on your account. A won auction must be paid within 4 days. Otherwise the item is put back on sale and a strike is added to your account.

A strike lasts 6 months and doesn’t lock your account: during that time your auctions are limited to your wallet balance (the bid, fees and delivery must be reserved there), but card purchases remain possible. There is no ban. Details are in the FAQ on strikes.

Combined orders

Your live purchases from the same shop are combined into one parcel for 24 hours from the first purchase. Shipping is calculated on the combined parcel, and the €0.49 fee is charged only once.

How much does a live auction cost?

For the buyer

The buyer protection fee is 6.9% of the item price (shipping excluded) + €0.49 once per order with the same seller, and only once for a whole live session. Example: a €50 item gives €3.45 + €0.49 = €3.94, i.e. €53.94 before shipping. A giveaway carries no buyer protection fee. All prices are in euros.

For the seller

Selling in a live on Blisterr means 0% seller commission, no listing fees and no subscription. The seller receives the item’s sale price (excluding any discount or free delivery they offer). Their wallet is credited no later than 20 days after delivery. To withdraw the wallet balance to a bank account (via Stripe Connect), the seller gets one free withdrawal every 40 days, then 3% + €1 per withdrawal. Details are on the fees page.

Opening booster packs live

A TCG-specific mechanic: you buy a sealed booster pack or booster box during the live, the seller opens it on camera and ships you the cards pulled. The live lets you check the opening in real time, which limits the risk of cards being sorted afterwards.

Mind the legal framework. When the on-stream opening is part of the offer, by buying you request that it take place immediately: once the booster is opened, there is no right of withdrawal, whatever the seller’s status (article 8.4 of the Terms of Sale). You receive the revealed contents as is and the luck of the draw does not give rise to any refund. Buyer protection does, however, cover a repackaged pack, a proven counterfeit or an item damaged before opening.

Tips for bidding well in a live

Set your budget before the live

The worst live mistake is getting carried away by adrenaline. Set a limit per lot before joining the broadcast, and stick to it. The app also lets you set your own spending limits.

Watch the competition

If three buyers are on the lot, the price will climb fast. If you’re alone, keep some margin: there’s no point outbidding yourself.

Don’t count on the last second

With the 15-second extension, a last-second bid gives others time to respond. It’s better to decide your ceiling in advance than to bet everything on timing.

Size up the seller before bidding

Our team reviews every seller application manually, and Stripe identity verification is completed during the application. For valuable pieces, also look at the reviews buyers left on the shop, and be careful with a seller who has no history.

Use the chat

Ask about condition, provenance, grading. A serious seller answers. An evasive seller is a red flag.

Buyer protection: what to do if there’s a problem

Blisterr commits to a 30-day buyer protection (article 9.2 of the Terms of Sale): item not received, item substantially different from its description, proven counterfeit. In practice:

  1. Contact the seller from your order details.
  2. If the seller doesn’t help, email support@blisterr.com or join our Discord with photos and proof.
  3. Our team reviews your case; if a refund is decided, it is credited to your wallet.

For more detail, read Buyer protection on a TCG marketplace.

Why collectors like lives

  • Trust: seeing the card on video, live, from several angles, reduces uncertainty compared to a static photo.
  • Community: the chat, questions to the seller and bidding against other collectors recreate the atmosphere of a shop or a convention.
  • Event: a seller can reserve certain pieces for their lives, creating an appointment a classic listing doesn’t offer.

If you’d rather buy at your own pace, with no schedule, the Peek is the complementary format.

Frequently asked questions about live auctions

Can you cancel a bid in a live?

No. A bid is firm and irrevocable once it is won. Check the amount before you confirm.

How long does a lot last?

A lot’s countdown lasts 30 seconds by default. A bid placed in the last 15 seconds resets it to 15 seconds, up to a limit of 1 hour per lot.

How long does a live last?

A live lasts 2 hours at most and stops automatically.

What happens if I don’t pay for a lot I won?

You have 4 days to pay. After that, the item is put back on sale and a strike is added to your account: for 6 months, your auctions are limited to your wallet balance, and card purchases remain possible.

Is there an anti-snipe on Blisterr?

Yes, in lives only: a bid placed in the last 15 seconds resets the countdown to 15 seconds. Peek auctions end at the displayed time.

Does it cost anything to take part in a live?

Taking part is free. If you win a lot, you pay the item price, the buyer protection fee (6.9% + €0.49, with the flat fee applied once per live session) and delivery.
